Dear friend:
If you wear glasses or contact lenses, you may
be considering LASIK surgery throw them away. I’m
sure you’ve seen the ads advertising low prices, or heard of fantastic
new lasers that track your eye thousands of times per second. Actually,
it’s all pretty confusing. Who is the best surgeon? What is the best
laser? Does paying more mean that you’ll get a better doctor or get
better results?
My name is Mike Robinson, and I'm the president of
20/20 Vision Centers. We do something very unique in our industry in that
we greatly reduce the risks that people face when having LASIK Surgery--and
there are risks. Reducing those risks and getting you the best possible
vision is why we created 20/20 Vision Centers. Believe it or not, paying
a high price does not mean that you will get the best vision, or that
you reduce your risk of complications.
Would You Like 20/20
Vision or 20/40 Vision After Your LASIK Surgery?
Not all Lasik surgery is created equal. There
are many variables that can control the sharpness of your vision. For
example, some surgeons consider corrected vision of 20/40 to be
perfectly acceptable while other surgeons consistently obtain 20/20
vision or better. The difference can be attributed to directly to the
skill of the surgeon and the processes that they follow.
Do You Need a
LASIK Specialist?
Of course you do. Most surgeons performing LASIK
are Ophthalmologists but not LASIK specialists. They perform many types
of eye surgeries, removing cataracts for example. At some point in their
career they learned how to do LASIK by attending a workshop or receiving
guidance from a peer. Typically, they observe 10-20 LASIK procedures and
perform another 10-20 procedures under supervision. At that point, they
will start performing LASIK at a surgical center. At these centers, the
equipment required to perform LASIK can be rented for a fee ranging from
$500 to $750 per eye.
A typical Ophthalmologist will perform many eye
surgeries each month with only a few of those being LASIK procedures.
When Ophthalmologists claim that they have performed thousands of
procedures that is true, however they may not all be LASIK. Similarly,
surgical centers may claim to have performed thousands of procedures,
which is true, but the surgeons working in the centers may have actually
performed very few procedures.
What this means to you is that many surgeons
performing LASIK have little experience with the procedure and they do
it infrequently. Since they perform the procedure less often, they are much
more likely inconsistent results.
Don’t take my word for it…recent studies
have shown that post-surgical vision problems are common. Some of these
problems can include double and triple vision, fuzzy vision, night
blindness, including seeing halos and starbursts. Most of these
complications are the result of poor surgical procedure. Don’t take
chances with your eyes. Even if you don’t choose 20/20 Vision Center
for you LASIK, choose a Board Certified Surgeon with a specialty in
refractive surgery.
There are Two
"Schools of Thought: when Dealing with LASIK Surgery – One Costs
You Three Times as Much as the Other…For Inferior Results. Which do
You Prefer?
Paying more for LASIK does not mean that you
will see better. The price you pay for
LASIK surgery is based on two things: the costs that the doctor has to
pay to perform each procedure and the number of procedures that the
doctor performs.
Some of our competitors build large extravagant
clinics and finance or lease the most expensive technology. The
doctors perform many procedures other than LASIK so the very expensive
LASIK equipment if not always in use. This means that you could pay
up to four times more for LASIK than you need to.
We own all our equipment and carry no debt. We
do not have to pay the interest on borrowed money or expensive equipment
leases. We are not required to pay a facility or middleman fee of
$500 to $750 per eye.
We have eliminated all unnecessary costs. Our
facilities have been designed to perform LASIK, not sell it. Our
vision centers are clean and modern and modest - built with a two
function in mind…to perform LASIK, and to provide the best care
possible for our patients.
Our high volume of procedures spreads the
cost of our equipment across many procedures and eliminates that high
middleman and facility fees. Finally, our Doctors are paid per case,
eliminating the high cost of salaries.
This means that you will get the best care and
the best possible vision at price that is 66% to 75% less than our
competitors.
High Volume Does Not
Mean Lower Quality…Too Much Volume Does
Our doctors are limited to performing 25
surgeries per day - not 40 - like some of our high volume competitors.
Limiting the number of procedures performed each day insures
that the surgeon is alert, at his or her best, and that you receive the best possible
care and the best vision possible.
The LASIK procedure takes only a few minutes,
however the surgeon needs time to prepare a surgical plan for
each patient. As the surgeon prepares each plan he or she carefully reviews all the
measurements taken in all the exams and makes a final decision how the
LASER will be programmed. The settings on the Laser will largely
determine the quality of your post-surgical vision. Our surgeons target
20/20 or better vision.
